did you know that there are generally two kinds of cockroaches that invade our homes and offices? they are the german cockroach and the american cockroach. strange how the pest control service providers are convinced that we don’t have any home grown cockroaches of our own. but it’s rather annoying for me to find out that all we have are migrant cockroaches. think about it, we actually had a chance to live our lives cockroach-free! (i didn’t really research about this, our pest control service provider just told me all about it. feel free to correct me.)

I don’t know which kind exactly, but it does swell something huge. the bite area gets really warm sometimes too.
Tell her to apply warm compress to bring the swelling down. And when it gets very itchy, to please don’t scratch so she doesn’t get scars. Some anti-itch lotion will help. I do not know of a product that was specifically made to cure cockroach bites. But warm compress helped mine heal faster.
helo…are you sure that it is German cockroach cause i dont see any of them here in our place. maybe you are talking about the Australian cockroach. your reply will be much appreciated thank you in advence
I could be wrong but in our hobby we are forced to take care of different insect feeders and the best feeder for us are cockroaches (imported ones!) because they are prolific breeders and easy to catch. I am talking of dubia’s, orange head, surinam, lateralis, hissers, etc.. most of them are non-flyers and some cannot climb smooth surfaces… too bad for the roaches that they get blamed when someone gets bitten but if you look closely most of the claimed roach bites are actually not roach bites they are bitten or blood was sucked from them by another flat/black/with an antennae like protrusion in the head to suck blood (sorry I do not know of its name)… anyway a cockroach will only be interested in you if you forgot to wash your hands after eating (milk stains on babies, food stains on any part of the body)… so in general if roaches did bite you they were actually feeding on stains or leftover food on you not you in poarticular… Oh and by the way there are several species of roaches found in the philippines and some of them are worth a fortune abroad but most of these species do not dwell ion human homes… interesting isn’t it?

I was doing laundry this morning in the laundry room and a cockroach was biting on my foot and it hurt. I brushed it off and smashed with a magazine. Later on I felt something biting me again and I looked and it was another darn cockroach. what can I do for the pain a feel?

I’ve seen those here, only without the orange spots on the sides. But these aren’t cockroaches (I think)..and they are normally found in sub-urban places where there are lots of plants around the house..

actually there are several species of cockroaches now here in the philippines and most of them came from shipments all over the world… some thrive in caves, others in the forest, i the drainage system, in our kitchen, gardens, etc. where there are moist dark warm places with a food source (they would eat and could digest absolutely anything)…
the funny part is the sensation caused by the feet of cockroaches are almost always mistaken for a bite… roaches are equipped with grappling hooks and spikes on their legs for grip and defense…
there are wood roaches that screams when picked-up and would flick gooey smelly stuff for defense…
I never did overcome my feelings towards roaches but when I started earnign
a penny or two from them I had to swallow my fears and limitations…
there are roaches as expensive as $500.00 (interesting isn’t it???)…
for the person doing the research all you have to do is find an old house (really old with or without tenants) and you will be interested to find several species of roaches in one place…
too bad for me, a cockroach bit me last sunday night, and when i woke up, my arms is slightly swelling, also my right arm. in the afternoon, i have a fever, and sobrang kati at hapdi ng arms and hand ko… i went to the mcu and then injected me diphenhyramine 50mg and gave natravox to be taken 3x a day for 5 days

camille, its a kissing bug, it will sooner or later infect your body. its very poisonous. you should consult a doctor/ dermatologist immediately. if all else fails, wish for luck

i’ve tried alot techniques in getting rid of those darn german roaches, did the pandan technique too but to no avail, can someone tell me what is the surest way to kill those insects, im getting tired of it.

hi. I think i was bitten by a bloodsucking conenose too. The thing is, when i was bitten, i swatted at it and when i took a look at it, kamukha nya ung picture ng conenose.does anybody know if that insect specie found here in the philippines, can cause sleeping sickness? I’ve read the symptoms online, and i have to admit, i’m a little afraid of the sickness it might cause. Any help regarding the matter would be greatly appreciated.

just got bitten by kissing bug last night . any suggestions to ease the swollen parts?
i noticed that everytime i tried to kill a roach and did not succeed (because it is too disgusting to squash) ..they seem to retaliate..(IS IT absurd?..paranoid..ahaha)..anyway..one time i tried to drown a roach crawling in my bathroom by spraying water to flush it down the drain..didnt work..so i sprayed baygon…left it lying on the tiles to die..(this was around 10pm) .Around 3 or 4am..4 to 5 roaches came flying inside my room probably sneaked in thru holes on my window screen.Then just tonight i saw one on my tv set,sprayed baygon, it was still for awhile looked as if it was about to die, suddnly it came flying toward me, I chased it with a slipper and it hid under my cabinet..after a minute it came flying again towards my bed where i was sitting..yaikss..but iwas able to squash it with all my energy..so pissed..Do u guys think this insects have the tendency to get revenge..
I think they emit some kind of a warning sorta calling their friends like a gang to help them attack..hahaha..yaiikss
I am not saying for sure it will work on insects in the Philippines. But you can use Borox powder (A laundry additive sold here as 20 Mule Team) to keep crawling insects out of your house. But do not use where pets or the kiddies can get at it, as it is poison. You can mix it with flour to go farther and cocoa to appeal to them. Put it under baseboards, under sinks, everywhere. You can use one of those plastic squeeze ketchup bottles to blow it into holes n the walls etc.
I do not know what everyone is getting bitten by there but there are things you can do short of seeing a doctor. Pure ammonia on a cotton ball or cloth held against the bite works well for mosquito bites as well as other bloodsuckers. It may work on these bites as well. Often it is an allergic reaction causing the itching so antihistamines can help. As well as cortisone cream just for the itching. An icepack may help the inflammation and numb the itching.

buy pachouli oil and mix with water in a misting spray bottle and spray in areas where roaches are found. you can watch them die. the bugs die in less than one minute. and pachouli is a plant so it’s safe for home use. but it does have a strong scent so remember that a little goes a long way.
as for the bite, cold compress for first 24 hours to keep it from swelling, and then, because it will swell a bit even if you do put ice, do a warm compress for the NEXT 24 hours to bring down the swelling. if it gets really big he might be allergic to roaches, and he must see a doctor to get a prescription for allergy meds.
you can also keep pandanus leaves or plants around the house, roaches hate the smell of that plant. (and you can use the pandanus leaves for cooking rice..or marinating chicken..and it goes well with coconut juice too.)

i was sitting on the wooden floor of my bedroom apartment when i felt something bit my left thigh. i ignored it at first, but when it became a bit itchy i looked at it and saw that darn kissing bug.. when i tried to stand it didn’t move, but when i tried to move and grab my slipper, it ran away , under my bed. i got freaked out! then i applied alcohol on it because it started to itch.. i looked at the possible things that might happen over the internet and it’s kinda scary.. i washed it immediately with water and detergent.the next day i applied povidone-iodine over it. the day after that, my room mate was bitten by the same bug, so we decided to look for it under our bed and found it.. we caught the bug and looked it inside a transparent plastic, then smashed it. but in her case, the bitten area was not swollen. the bitten area was swollen for 2 days, and it subsided after.. but still i am a bit scared. any enlightenment?

hi! good day! actually my day was not that good because I was bitten by a large kissing bug last Tuesday night (aug. 23, 2011) it did not swell quickly it became itchy and swells (big) wed. afternoon (a little late), At first, I thought its an allergy but later on it became itchy and it turns red all of a sudden. My brother checked the bug under neat my mattress and voila he found a big black bug and step it on afterwards. I couldn’t sleep at all last night because of the itch and pain at the same time and i can hear my heart palpitate a little bit. Last time, I also get bitten by the same insect and it does not swells that big. And now, I am searching over the internet, and I found out that there’s this chagas disease when you are bitten by a k.bug. and it can kill u. Please help me, what should I do? I am really afraid.

i got bitten too, i know its german cockroach, i remember differenct insects’ pix on raid/baygon spray. its smaller than regular house roach, black, diamond like-shape. make sure u find and kill it because it will come back and feed on u over and over again. i tried cold compress, more relieving than hot compress.
I am always being bitten by these blood sucker thing insect and i hate it so much. It’s giving me sleepless nights because of the itchy thing, and aside from that it swole thicker than a mosquito bite,with a reddish color thing on my skin. I was bitten 3 times already. I even took a shower before bedtime and change my bed sheets all the time to avoid these blood sucker thing. I have an allergy with these bites and its giving me problem coz it leaves a dark scar marks on my skin., Can somebody help me how to remedy the itch from these blood sucker insect, aside from taking antihistamine meds.
