Chachi Dear Chachi

with my cute Chachi!! (and Janie)
Chachi is our latest (after Butch, Whitney, Dalmacio, Itim, James, Jughead, Jemma, the white doggie, Stevie, Trista, Lobo and my first dog) “askal” (Filipino term for dogs with no particular breed, a mongrel). As the photo shows, she knows how to pose for the right camera (very picky dog..). She is dark brown in color, with light brown spots on her paws and over her eyes (where eyebrows are supposed to be!) and twice the size of a toy dog. She has a very happy and affectionate disposition. Sometimes it’s as if she was a cat, with all the strange sounds she makes and the way she likes to rub against my leg. She kind of leans on you when she wants some belly or ear scratching. When she’s extremely pleased or happy about something she makes snorting noises (like a pig!!) and starts curling her body while walking. Honestly, this curling behavior coupled with snorting is unique to me. She’s the only dog I’ve seen doing something like that.
But just because she’s all cute and smart doesn’t mean she’s perfect. She used to eat live roosters. Not just any kind, she picks the really expensive, ready for battle, fighting cocks that normally sell for 3,000-5,000 pesos! For about a year, it was normal for us to find a rooster head, or foot, or wing all over the yard. She stopped eating them after her 15th rooster, and (15th) spanking and scolding session. A very stubborn dog indeed. It’s not as if we didn’t feed her. She always had something good to eat (people food!). Nevertheless, we all love her dearly. Especially my sister Adel and I.
(All the photos in our cellphones are proof enough!)
Chachi used to be so timid. I think it was because she came from the farm, and our house was in the middle of the town proper. She was wide-eyed and skittish every time a dump truck rolled by. New year’s eve was the worst time for her. It still is. But she finds comfort in my armpits and underneath my father’s chair. Bubbles are her enemy, and she thinks those things that float are after her (the wind does a lot to make her fear these bubbles..).
she’s just so adorable! (most people will disagree..)
*sigh* i love my Chachi.
