ATTENTION red-eared slider turtle owners out there:
have any of you witnessed your pet sneeze?
My Walter was walking around the apartment earlier today, the office door was open and I was in an IM conference with my friends. He walks right up to where I was seated. I looked at him. He looked right back at me.
and then he sneezed. “ha-ch!” (a very short CH sound)
I think my jaw dropped before I started typing away about my turtle sneezing.
Is this normal? goodness. He’s okay, and he ate his usual fish…but that sneeze..
I swear, my turtle is so weird.

I didn’t think turtles sneezed until mine did. To date, no one’s been able to explain it to me. But then I wasn’t able to catch it on video so all they really have is what I tell them..

You know my turtle hasn’t been sneezing but he has been making some sort of weird hissing sound all day, he sounds kind of like a rattle snake. He only does it for a second though. I don’t know why he’s doing it, there’s nobody bothering him.

My largest slider, Janice, has some weird allergy. She wheezes. It is the oddest sound… Like an old lady gasping. I am planning on moving their tank so no-one smokes around her. I hope it will help…It’s random when she does it though.
