Karma it is..

We didn’t have a telephone at my parents’ house growing up. The development of the cellular phone was a big break for us. My father brought one of the brick like things home and put my name on the class directory - when I was in my sophomore year!

I was the only one in my school (as far as I knew) without a telephone at home. People gasped at the thought and assumed that I lived on a farm, well, I almost did. But the suburban reality was not what bothered me, it was the way my friends talked to each other before the next school day. And then they whispered about the previous night’s conversation at recess, with me painfully not knowing a thing.

So when the much awaited telephone came to replace the brick pretending to be a phone, I was ecstatic. I made prank calls, I talked non-sense to people willing to waste time with me. For the most part, I really just made a heck of a lot of prank calls. I called numbers I found on the directory. I pretended to be from the Electric Company and asked people to check if the meter was running - and when they told me it was runnning indeed, I would tell them to “go and run after it!” After which I would burst into peals of laughter, amused by my brilliant madness.

But the laws of attraction ensure that like will attract like. I have been suffering a series of annoying prank calls during the last two weeks. The same guy with that annoying drawl keeps calling our home number asking for a dozen or so different people and companies. I am up to my neck and nearly ready to implode too. This nutter is driving me nuts.

What goes around does come around.
